The Silence of Time is an intimate, deeply personal photography book I designed in collaboration with photographer Arthur Meehan. Combining landscapes, flowers, nudes, and personal writing, the book explores memory, loss, and the passage of time.
The Silence of Time is a small and almost journal-like book. The design reflects the personal nature of Arthur's work, with shifts in scale, rhythm, and contrast that allow the photographs to echo, extend, and sometimes push against one another as the book unfolds.
The paperback format, with its French flaps, gives the book an informal, intimate character. Printed by Puritan Press in New Hampshire, which specializes in fine art books, it's a reminder that photography books don't have to be large or lavish to be beautiful. Sometimes a smaller, quieter format is exactly right for the work.
